Identifying Degraded and Sensitive to Desertification Agricultural Soils in Thessaly, Greece, under Simulated Future Climate Scenarios

چکیده
The impact of simulated future climate change on land degradation was assessed in three representative study sites Thessaly, Greece, one the country’s most important agronomic zones. Two possible scenarios were used for estimation climatic conditions, which based greenhouse gas emissions (RCP4.5 and RCP8.5). Three time periods selected: reference past period 1981–2000 comparison, 2041–2060 2081–2100. Based soil characteristics, type uses, management prevailing area, Environmentally Sensitive to desertification Areas (ESAs) each using MEDALUS-ESAI index. Soil losses derived by water tillage erosion also existing empirical equations. Furthermore, primary salinization risk an algorithm individual indicators related natural environment or socio-economic characteristics. obtained data both predicted increases mean maximum minimum air temperature. Concerning annual precipitation, reductions are generally expected sites. Desertification is increase comparison period. estimated be more sloping areas, due especially at least site. Primary higher site soils under poorly drainage conditions.

Modeling Current and Future Potential Distributions of Caspian Pond Turtle (Mauremys caspica) under Climate Change Scenarios
Although turtles are the most threatened taxonomic group within the reptile class, we have a very limited understanding of how turtles respond to climate change. Here, we evaluated the effects of climate changes on the geographical distribution of Caspian pond turtle (Mauremys caspica). We used an ensemble approach by combining six species distribution models including artificial neural network...
متن کاملHeavy Metal Concentrations in Soils and Irrigation Waters in Thessaly Region, Central Greece
The purpose of this work was to provide information on heavy metals concentration in soils and in irrigation water in Thessaly, Central Greece, where tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum) is cultivated. Tobacco tends to accumulate high levels of heavy metals, especially Cadmium. During the years 1998, 1999 and 2000, 795 surface soil samples (0-30 cm depth) and 200 water samples were collected from Kardit...
متن کاملPesticide exposure and lymphohaematopoietic cancers: a case-control study in an agricultural region (Larissa, Thessaly, Greece)
BACKGROUND The causality of lymphohaematopoietic cancers (LHC) is multifactorial and studies investigating the association between chemical exposure and LHC have produced variable results. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationships between exposure to pesticides and LHC in an agricultural region of Greece. METHODS A structured questionnaire was employed in a hospital-based cas...

متن کاملDetermining the Effect of Drying Time on Phosphorus Solubilization from Three Agricultural Soils under Climate Change Scenarios.
Climate projections for the future indicate that the United Kingdom will experience hotter, drier summers and warmer, wetter winters, bringing longer dry periods followed by rewetting. This will result in changes in phosphorus (P) mobilization patterns that will influence the transfer of P from land to water. We tested the hypothesis that changes in the future patterns of drying-rewetting will ...
